How It Works

Sheet vinyl comes in wide rolls (6 ft or 12 ft) and is cut to your room length. A 12-ft roll covers most rooms without seams.

The Formula

Vinyl Sq Ft = CEIL(Room Length + 6") x Roll Width x Number of Runs

Variables

  • Roll Width โ€” 6 ft or 12 ft โ€” choose to minimize seams
  • Roll Length โ€” Room length plus 6" overhang for trimming

Worked Example

12x10 room with 12-ft roll: 1 run x 12 ft wide x 13 ft long = 156 sq ft of vinyl.

Practical Tips

  • Choose a 12-ft roll if your room is under 12 ft wide for a seamless install.
  • Full-spread adhesive is most durable; perimeter-glue is easier for DIY.
  • Let sheet vinyl acclimate flat (not rolled) for 24 hours before cutting.
  • Use a template from craft paper for complex room shapes.
